Tuesday at the track: RT goes to Parx Racing to pick the 8th and 11th and shares a list of horses to watch
Yesterday, my longshot in the 5th never fired as Angel Castillo aboard Spanky did the hammer lock on Spanky and held her back until the stretch. It was an excellent strategy for this race and her connections. However, my play in the 7th got the buttah.
Parx Racing – 8th race, post time 4:04 pm
$50K Optional Claimer for 3yo NWx or NW$ going 6F
#2 Romanoff (4/1) has our best overall numbers today, however, I am not a fan of a horse shipping in who has never raced at the track or worked out there as well. I will use him in exotic wagers. The horse I am interested in is #5 Brilliant Chase (5/1). His connections have stayed patient leaving him in the special weight class eleven times before finally breaking his maiden. Often times the connections start dropping the horse into the claiming ranks after a few races if they haven’t won, so reading the tea leaves, they must feel this horse as special, which showed in his last race where he blistered the pack by 9.5 lengths. All of his races have been at Parx, so I’ll take a flyer on the only horse with home court advantage.
My pick: #5 Brilliant Chase
Parx Racing – 11th race, post time 5:25 pm
$40K Allowance for 3yo+ Nwx or NW2 going 5.5F
#1 Shanghai Superfly (3/1) is 8:4-0-1 for $98K at Parx. He was changed from juicer Marcos Zuleuta’s barn to Jamie Ness and today could be his day to finally notch a score out of the claiming ranks. Pennington/Ness a solid 30% prop.
#4 Ark In The Dark (5/2) has our best overall class and second best overall speed. Front running type gets a radical break in distance today which is going to be welcome. Jockey Ruben Silvera ice cold of late going 0%.
#5 Bojingle (4/1) money burner in his last two at Parx, he tried this level at Del and put in a dull effort. Recent work of 3F in :35.5 and cut back in distance shows this horses readiness for today.
#2 Ashraq (7/2) raced last two versus similar, set the pace in his lace and tired in the stretch. Today, he takes a one furlong turn back and although his speed numbers aren’t that impressive, pace does make the race and he will collect a check today.
#3 Hitmewithurbestshot (9/2) claimed two back this winter for the DeMasi barn after scoring a blistering 100 Equibase speed number, he was shelved and brought back against todays’ level. He ran a marginal race to get a show payday and I do believe he’ll play a bigger factor today.
My pick: Last week 100% of all races at 5.5 furlongs went gate to wire and yesterday both 6F winner came from off the pace, yet they were both on or near the lead at the stretch. So, who gets the lead and stays with it in this? #2 Ashraq gets a perfect 7 speed score and I’ll go with him.
