Wednesday at Parx Racing: RT picks the 6th and the 9th with the help of the SmartCap system

First picked post time at Parx Racing is 3:10 pm EDT

Parx racing today where the track, as of this morning, was listed as “good.” The weather looks to be gorgeous – mid 80’s, lots of sunshine and low humidity.

Parx Racing Race 6 – post time 3:10 pm EDT

$7.5K Claiming 3yo NW4 going 6.5F

#6 It’s Good To Be Us (3/1) has SmartCap/Equibase best overall class and speed figures. He bobbled at the start the last time out and was out of the race completely. That was after a four month hiatus and his last race came June 23rd. He has had one freshening since and his trainer, Jacinto Solis is 0% with horses off 1-2 months. He had one freshening a week ago and is a lover of Parx fetching a 7:3-0-0 record for $88K or $12.5K per trip, far outnumbering the rest of these.

#3 Scoobydoopapa (9/2) gets best last numbers and second-best overall class and speed. He came out of his shell after 4.5 months and struck a winner at the same claiming tag, NWx NW3 last out. Stepping up today to NW4, he has demonstrated a solid late kick and given there is little to no speed in this, may not be enough. This guy has a history of bouncing off his last high number, so a play in the exotic wager would be all I do.

#7 Ride On Faith (6/1) 3rd off a layoff, third best overall class and speed and next best last race, this Candy Ride gelding came off a solid race at Parx two back, moved to Monmouth and had gate woes, launched a belated rally, and picked up the fourth place check. Today, he is back chasing NW4, where he has tried unsuccessfully in four straight attempts, yet the homecoming and class drop may suit him well. Look for him to be the lone speed in this and a solid 9:1-2-2 record at the distance should be suitable.

#5 Tattered (5/2) DQ’d into the winners circle after the winner lugged in on the third place finisher, subsequently making him fist and frankly, he would have never won that race. I am going to put this guy in my exotics, as a win be is not in the offing. He has a 16:2-5-5 record at Parx, so he will have his nose in the money.

My pick: Tough call for this race, however, I am going with what the numbers tell me and take #6 It’s Good to Be Us

Parx Racing Race 9 – post time 4:31 pm EDT

$25K Starter Allowance for girls 3yo+ NW$ or NWx. 7 furlongs

#3 Dance And Dance (9/2) is third off the layoff, was steadied early in his last and gave it hell late to get up for fifth. She has our best last, near best overall class and low on the totem pole for speed. Her record at Parx is not good – six tries, no wins, three seconds and a third. Keep this lady in your exotics.

#1 Slingin Sammy B (3/1) has best overall speed and third best overall class. She also has second best last race where he set the pace, then tired in a one mile, seventy yard route versus similar. She put up his best Equibase number of 95 that day, returns leading rider Mychel Sanchez and a repeat of his last effort will bring home the bacon. The turn back in distance will do her well, yet she will not be the lone speed.

#4 Portal Creek (10/1) has best last two cumulatively, near best overall class. Well traveled four year old ships in from Indy via Oaklawn where in his last, showed some jump making a move around the turn before tiring. This guy can make things interesting as he gets class relief and stretches out – where his late kick will make him a factor. Jockey/trainer hitting 40% winners and a couple of workouts over the track have been just ok.

#2 Odd Gal (5/2) will challenge for the lead as she has wired her last two wins in a row. Trainer Jamie Ness 18% moving horses up in class, 28% with Ruben Silvera and 25% when winning the last race. She stretches out today and it’s a tough call whether she’ll make the distance with so much front end speed in this race.

#8 Steady Love (10/1) has best overall class and second best last race. She has been consistent in her last two of putting up speed numbers of 77 against tougher foes, yet has had only one good race in her last four attempts. Of course, the last one was on the turf where seemingly, she had a disdain for that. Lover of Parx, this Claudio trainer is 3:1-0-1 for $32K or $10.8 per try, the best by far in this.

#6 She’smyrisenstar (12/1) has been claimed three of her past five races and is in the barn of Joseph Taylor, second leader at Parx and he is 14% off the claim and 25 with Angel Rodriguez on the irons. She can be a need the lead type or can lay off the pace, which makes her an interesting sort that should make her an exotic wager.

My pick: I am going to go with #1 Slingin Sammy B. The gamble will be that Mychal Sanchez lays off the pace and doesn’t get sucked into a speed duel.
