Bet Lone Star Park Monday: Garrity picks a good late afternoon horse racing card from Texas

Garrity's first post is 5:15 pm EDT.

We’re heading to Texas today, where Lone Star Park has a good Monday card. We like the last four races, so we’ll break down each race, and then run through the plays. We’re expecting fast dirt and firm turf. Let’s go.

Lone Star Park, Race 6, 5:15 pm ETMaiden Special Weight, 1 1/16 miles, Turf, Texas-breds 3- & Up

This state-bred maiden race on the grass drew a full field of ten. We like 1-Mula Wild and 3-Goliath Ridge. Both have been running against open company, and both should find the shallower waters of this race, which is restricted to state-breds much, much more hospitable than the races they’ve been running in. We think one will win, and will use both in multi-race wagers. We will throw in 2-1 morning line favorite 7-Solar City, who is a bit too obvious for our tastes, but is another logical contender.

Lone Star Park, Race 7, 5:45 pm ET

Allowance, 5 ½ furlongs, Dirt, FIllies & Mares 3 & Up

Eight go in this first-level allowance dirt sprint for females. 8/5 favorite 7-Cherished shows a pattern we are very familiar with: She’s a speed horse whose past races fall into two categories: when she gets a comfortable early lead, she wins; when she is pressured early, she fades. We think she will get the lead today without having to try too hard, and that will make her very tough to beat. We’ll include 3-Distorted Flash, who posted a good speed figure two back, and could be a threat with a pace-pressing trip.

Lone Star Park, Race 8, 6:15 pm ET

Allowance, 5 ½ furlongs, Dirt, 3 & Up

This tough non-winners-of-two allowance drew a field of eight. We like 8-Tumbling Sky, who has sneaky form: He’s run four times in his life, but one was on the grass, and two were on wet tracks. The best race of his life was his first race, when he won his career debut last summer in a maiden race at Saratoga. He has high speed and a coveted outside post position, and his 12-1 morning line price looks absolutely juicy. He’s a big threat at a big price. We will include 4-Impact Player, 5-Double Barrel Man, 6-New Colossus, and 7-Leroy in multi-race plays.

Lone Star Park, Race 9, 6:45 pm ET

Allowance, 1 mile, Turf, Texas-bred Fillies & Mares 3 & Up

This turf race for state-bred allowance runners is pretty wide open, but we think that one of the trio of 5-Miss Yachty, 6-Dancin All Alone, and 8-Glitter Bright will win. We will use all three in multi-race plays.

We are going to leverage these opinions with the following plays:

Lone Star Park, Race 6, $3 Pick 4: 1,3 with 7 with 8 with 5,6,8. (Total cost: $18).

Lone Star Park, Race 6, Pick 3: 1,3,7 with 3,7 with 4,5,6,7,8. (Total cost: $15)

Lone Star Park, Race 7, Pick 3: 3.7 with 4,5,6,7,8 with 5,6,8. (Total cost: $15)

Lone Star Park, Race 8, $30 to win on 8-Tumbling Sky.

That’s four total plays, and a total investment of $78.

That’s all for today. Until the next time, enjoy the racing, be safe, and, as always, good luck at the windows.
