Bet Indiana Stakes Day at Indiana Grand: RT and SmartCap pick races 7 through 11
Indiana Stakes Day
Race 7 – The $75K Hoosier Breeders Sophomore Stakes
Indy Bred 3yo’s going 8.5f
My choice in this is #7 Mai Tai’s Gem (5/1) big time players make big time plays in big time games…..look for Deshawn Parker to notch the win again on the son of Gemologost. Trainer Antonio Duran with Deshawn is 40% and he is 17% with horses off 6+ months. #4 Nutty Train (10/1) can make some noise at a price and the favorite, #9 Two Last Words (2/1) will be pressed on the front end and fade.
Race 8 – The $75K Indiana General Assembly Distaff Stakes
Indiana bred 4yo+ fillies and mares going 8.5 panels on turf
#12 She’sonthewarpath (5/2) looks to be a tough out in this as she’s proven to be a cold closer. #8 Hanalei Moon (6/1) won a $250K restricted stakes last summer at Kentucky Downs and has run in graded competition since. She’s had three solid works since May and the class drop will put her in the mix. #4 Rogue Too (8/1) is going to be the lone speed, which is a 16% prop at Ind and it will not be sustainable. #7 Complicit (10/1) will be flying at the end and may get a slice.
Race 9 – The $75K Jonathan B. Schuster Memorial Stakes
4yo+ going 8.5f on turf
#9 First Premio is the choice as Miguel Mena gets his second ride on him. Last time out, he was squeezed in the upper stretch while full of run and the race got out of hand for him. His numbers are attractive and he’ll get ot done today.
Race 10 – The $200K G3 Indiana Oaks
3yo fillies going 8.5f
#6 Shedaresthedevil (9/5) looks to be the best in this as she just crushed in a $100K aoc in early June and has notched a G3 win at OP this winter. However, she will not be without company on the front end as #11 Gibberish (20/1), #9 Alandra (8/1) and #8 Spartanka (12/1). The price play is #4 Impeccible Style (10/1) the closer in this group. I’m guessing that Florent Geroux will let the pace go and hold #6 back and move on the turn.
Race 11 – The G3 $300K Indiana Derby
3yo’s going 8.5f
I’m going with Major Fed (7/2). He’s faced much tougher and has worked well of late. James Graham will get it done on him this afternoon.
