Wednesday at Parx Racing: RT picks 3 races with the help of SmartCap

First picked post time is 1:22 pm EDT

Well, if I sucked any worse of late, my last name would be Dyson.

Time to jump back into the batters box and keep swinging.

Parx Racing, Race 2, post time 1:22 pm EDT

$10K MCL for 3yo+ going 6f

My pick: I’m going to take a contest wager on two horses in this. $10/w on each -

#1 Vencil (7/2) 2nd time Lasix and a hard fought race last out to rally and lose by a neck. That was against four year olds and up, so he has raced versus similar.

#7 Inspired Options (5/1) the only three year old in this race was claimed by Laurel’s leading trainer Claudio Gonzalez after his one and only race. I must believe that Claudio has a keen eye for talent and sees something in him. He gets second Lasix, a five pound weight break, and was second in the betting his last out with a heavy diet of works since.

Parx Racing, Race 3, post time 1:49 pm EDT

$16K Starter Allowance for fillies and mares 3yo+ NW$ NW2L going one mile and seventy yards

*note to self – remember these dates of starter allowances. It’s Parx’ way of allowing trainers and owners to race their horses protected from claiming.

SmartCap/Equibase has #2 Li’bito’charm (4/1) with best overall class, speed, and best last two races. She’s had six workouts since her last race in February and the past two have been brisk – a 4f in :48.9 and the last, a 5f in 1:01.3. She’ll have to battle #5 Florencia (5/2) for the lead and with Ruben Silvera having his second ride on her, look for him to press rather than lead.

#5 Florencia (5/2) is coming off a win on February 24th and has been shelved since. Stepping up in class, trainer Juan Guerrero is 16% in that scheme, 18% with horses off 2-6 months, 16% when winning last and 33% with jockey Laureano Flores. She’s had three median works and has never won at this distance. False favorite in my eyes.

#3 It’s So Easy (12/1) has best two cumulatively and the connections made the change to Claudio Gonzalez. This is a well bred horse with the dam being a 5:6 winner and the sire, Raison D’Tat, just missing in The Curlin Stakes, being short odds in The Travers and getting show money in The Discovery Handicap. A good showing today will certainly put her in my virtual stable. We’ll see if the step down in class provides relief.

#4 Posseineffecttoo (10/1) has Angel Castillo in the irons and he is 14% in routes. She has co-second best overall class and speed and two recent works have been above the mean. Not the best play today

#6 Angel Raphael (5/2) is co-second best overall class and best race two back. Mychael Sanchez returns to the irons where he has had much more success on this filly than others. Sanchez is the leading jockey at Parx with 33 wins this split meet. She stretches out for the first time today and her closing style should bode well.

My pick - #2 and I am going to bet, non-contest, an exacta and trifecta using 2-3-6-5

Parx Racing, Race 9, post time 4:31 pm EDT

$5K Starter Allowance for 3yo+ NW$c going 6f

#2 White Bluff (4/1) OK, I’ll admit that I was wrong about previously trained Zulueta horses as witnessed twice yesterday when the #1 Aspen Extreme took the first race and the #2 Flat Out Beautiful took the eighth. After a quick scan of the indictment, it appears that Zulueta was acting as a broker and it did not implicate him in doping any of his horses. Why knows? Maybe he figured that there’s some quick cash to be made and thought merely brokering was innocuous enough, rendering the risk worth the reward? Wait and see. So, after that digression, let’s see if White Bluff stands a chance. Yesterday, in sprints of 6f or less, the speed held four out of five times with the lone non-speed being a presser type. With that in mind, we have #4 Jacks A Warrior (7/2) to add to this as the speed. Look for #1 Trusting Friend (5/1) and #5 Fifty (9/2) to lay close and hit it in the stretch.

My pick: #4 Jacks A Warrior – last out, he was beaten by Forman The Foreman who returned Monday, set some strong fractions on the lead and couldn’t get that last ½ furlong in. This Florida bred will not have to contend with the extra ½ furlong and can run away with it.
