Monday PDJFund Handicapping Contest: RT and Garrity both pick the re-opening of Parx Racing

Week 4 day 1: First post is 2:06 pm EDT.

RT

Chris Garrity

Bettors Insider's two horse racing handicapping experts – Chris Garrity (@belmostickey) and RT and SmartCap (@RTsSpot) – have agreed to take part in a weekly handicapping contest throughout June.

For the contest, each handicapper will designate one of his race picks per weekday and two on Saturday and Sunday. Win, place, show betting only. $20 per bet. Weeks run Monday through Sunday.

The 'capper with the most money at the end of each week will have a donation made in his name to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund. You can donate to the fund here.

Play along and in future months you may have a chance to beat the pros.

Yesterday

RT bet $20 win on 2-The Rock Says in the 1st race at Churchill Downs and in the 8th race at Churchill he bet $7 win on 6-KJ's Nobility and $13 place on 7-By Your Side. The Rock rolled into third and so did KJ. RT finished the week +37.40. Garrity put $20 to win on 4-Casual in the Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park and $20 to win on 3-Tintoretto in the 6th at Santa Anita. He finished a game fourth following a terrible stop-and-start stretch run. In the 10th at Santa Anita he put $20 to win on 8-Bowies Hero, who paid a decent price to place. Garrity finished the week +$98 and is this week's winner of the PDJFund Charity Handicapping Challenge. A donation will be made in his name. The last week of the Challenge (at least for now) starts today.

Garrity's Pick

The Pick: Parx Racing, Race 4, $20 to win on #8 Magicallydelicious, post time 2:06 pm EDT

Why: Parx Racing returns from a long hiatus with a good card this afternoon. We’re looking to get the contest started this week with a solid, if obvious, pick: Magicallydelicious drops into this $16,000 claimer after two decent efforts in Maiden Special weight races. She’s got a big edge in speed figures and will find that running against maiden claimers is much, much easier than what she’s been facing in her last two. Look for her to press the pace, move to the front at the top of the stretch, and win this one going away.

RT's Pick

The Pick: Parx Racing, Race 8, $7 to win, $13 to place on #5 Wise Jude, post time 4:04 pm EDT

Why: #5 Wise Jude (12/1) coming off a $46K allowance win, this guy was really rounding into form when put on the shelf. Getting a cut back in distance may be welcome in this first start in a while. Trainer/jockey 15% together and the fact that he has beaten older, more seasoned horses, makes him my pick.
