PDJFund Charity Handicapping Contest: Tuesday, RT and Garrity pick races at Lone Star Park

Week 3, day 2: First post is 5:45 pm EDT

Bettors Insider's two horse racing handicapping experts – Chris Garrity (@belmostickey) and RT and SmartCap (@RTsSpot) – have agreed to take part in a weekly handicapping contest throughout June.

For the contest, each handicapper will designate one of his race picks per weekday and two on Saturday and Sunday. Win, place, show betting only. $20 per bet. Weeks run Monday through Sunday.

The 'capper with the most money at the end of each week will have a donation made in his name to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund. You can donate to the fund here.

Play along and in future months you may have a chance to beat the pros.

Yesterday

RT bet $7 win, $13 place on 8-Mo Gayle in the 5th race at Lone Star Park The horse needed to run Mo faster and finished out of the money. Garrity put $20 to win on 7-Winking at Thedude in the 6th at Indian Grand. Thedude, alas, didn't wink back and also finished out of the money. Both RT and Garrity start off the week -$20.

RT's Pick

The Pick: Race 7, Lone Star Park, $7 to win, $13 to place on #1 Goodnightloving, post time 5:45 pm EDT

Why: #1 Goodnightloving (4/1) whether it is trainer JR Caldwell or a member of his team placing this filly in races, someone is reading the tea leaves right. Two back, she was entered in a NW2 and summarily ran away with it, last race was a NW3 and won going away. Today, she drops in claiming price, yet moves up in class and she is in fine form. The distance is suitable and jockey Ivan Arellano is back, where he’s 2 for 3 on her.

Garrity's Pick

The Pick: Race 8, Lone Star Park, $10 to win, $10 to place on #2 Distorted Flash, post time 6:15 pm EDT

Why: For today’s contest play, we’ve selected the 8th race at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie Texas. It’s a first-level allowance for females at 7 furlongs on the main track. We like 2 - Distorted Flash, a 4-year-old filly who broke her maiden in her second start last out. She earned a good speed figure for that effort, but what we particularly like is that the race was at 7 furlongs, the same distance as this race. That experience should serve her well. She’s 6-1, which we think is a square price; we will bet her to win and to place.
