I am excited to be a part of our Disabled Jockey Fund Charity Handicapping Contest. There will be a mythical $20 bet per race and very simply, the 'capper with the most money at the end of each week will have a donation made in his name to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund. It’s a worthy cause, so please donate to the fund here.
The bank took a hit yesterday with the first choice, in the 1st race, getting up for place and the selection for the 2nd giving a blasé’ effort. With a $2/w and $4/p bet, we are at $481 bet, $511.50 returned, for a +3.12% roi.
Today we are going to Tampa for the second race. The weather is predicted for scattered showers, but looking at the radar, all seems clear. This is a turf race, so if taken off, the best a no go.
Race 2 - $25K Claiming fillies and mares 3yo’s+ NW2 going one mile
There is going to be a lot of speed in this with #2 Toolcat (8/1), #5 Baci (7/2), and #4 Shikaka (2/1) all vying for the lead.
SmartCap has #8 Adios (4/1) with second best overall speed and class and best last. Trainer Roger Laurin has one win for a 0% record when bringing horses back after 6+ months, so we’ll pass. #4 Skikaka (2/1) has best overall speed, best overall class and second best last race. For the aforementioned, both shipping in from GP and seemingly, shippers from there have not fared well at Tampa. My choice is #5 Baci (7/2). I believe she will be close enough to the pace to be able to close this out late. Backing a horse that is a lightly raced and just broken her maiden shows her form and is typically a sound strategy.
