I share a birthday with a friend in the National Capitol Region. Every year, we get together and this was my year to go there – hence the reason for being incognito of late.

We went to Laurel on Saturday the 29th and didn’t cash a ticket. It was an ugly mess. Afterward, we went to the absolute best pizza place in N. America, Matthews’ Pizza, in Baltimore. When we left and were walking toward the car, my buddy kept saying, “I think your car has been hit.” I relented, saying, “no, that was someone else.”

When we got near, sure enough, someone did a hit and run. It was demolished. A Baltimore City policeman was standing next to it and asked “who is RT that rented this from Hertz?” I affirmed it was me and then, pointing to his phone, told me…”look at this video that was captured on Ring by a resident.” It was someone who just completely and erratically nailed the entire side of this Murano. I was then told that the guy stopped, dumped his beer bottles out, took off, then hit a pole and the cops caught him.

RT's Baltimore rental got, shall we say, bumped at the rail.

It was a fitting end to the day.

Today, we are going to focus on two turf races at Gulfstream. Of late, SmartCap seems to be more effective with turf races.

In the third at Gulfstream, this is a one-mile turf race for fillies and mares that are four years old and greater and non-winners of two.

SmartCap uncovered #4 Blame The Gods (5/2) as best last, best last two, best overall speed and best overall class – a veritable sweep. It’ll be highly likely that she’ll go off as the odds on. Javier Castellano gets the mount for his second attempt on her and it appears that she may be prime to take this. I’ll go with her and she’ll probably get claimed.

Race six is a one mile and one sixteenth race for four year olds and up, NW2.

#5 Vegas Kitten (4/1) has best overall speed and class as well as best last two. Best last is convoluted with #7 Wise to Listen (6/1) has the top speed and #2 New York Style (3/1) has best last in terms of class figure.

#1 Bourbon Currency (5/2) will go off as the prohibitive favorite because Irad is aboard and he’s second off the layoff. I do believe Vegas Kitten is going to win this race because of his front running style and the way the turf track has played of late.

Happy Hunting!
