My horses will run faster today than al-Baghdadi did last night

Last day for the meet at Hastings, Vancouver, BC.

Hastings Race Course is just four miles from beautiful Vancouver, BC. Its backdrop of the Northshore Mountains and the Burrard Inlet make it a spectacular course to visit.

Today is a full card of races, so let’s get to it.

All races today are Waiver Claiming. For those unfamiliar, to waiver claim means to run protected without a claiming price. In order to be eligible to waiver claim, a horse must have, in their last start, run in a claiming race or for a claiming price that is equal to or lower than the claiming race the horse is being entered in.

Of note – coming into today, three jockeys are vying for the title, to date:

Antonio Reyes 55 wins

Enrique Gonzalez 54 wins

Amadeo Perez 52 wins

5:18 est Race 2

$6.25K Waiver Claimers fillies and mares 3yo+ going 6.5 furlongs

#1 G M T Baby (3/1) really see this as a two horse race with this filly and the #2, Tattooed Kitty. The rail will be a better play for her here as in her last out, the jockey kept her in the three path the entire way and brought her four wide into the stretch. No wonder she tired….running seven furlongs in a six and a half furlong race. Hopefully we’ll see a lot of money go on the #4, Sweet Sixteen as she is coming off two wins. My choice is dropping in class to this level where she’ll either take to the lead straight away, or press the pace and take off in the far turn. Either way, her Equibase and SmartCap numbers come back strong. Meet leading trainer Philip Hall, is 26% proposition in dirt races, sprint races and 33% wins with jockey Jose Ascensio.

Bets - $50/w $100/p #1

5:46 pm Race 3

$6.25 Waiver Claiming fillies and mares 3yo+ going 1 mile and 1/16th

#2 Mousey Mousey (1/1) have to side with the odds on in this as she is coming off the best last, has the best class numbers and almost the best speed numbers. A close second in all of these categories is the #4, Fast Bid. I got off the aforementioned because of her jockey has zero % wins in routes. Leading jockey Antonio Reyes up and with trainer Robert Gilker, they are a 29% win prop.

Bets - $50/w $100/p #2

6:14 est Race 4

$4K Waiver Claiming 3yo+ NW4 going 1 mile and 1/16th

#5 – Ace Deuce (8/5) positive jockey switch to Reyes gets a shot at inching up the leader board with this live mount. In her last race, this General Meeting gelding was stretching out for the first time in a year and in this nasty slop. The jockey ran him in the four path the entire way and it wasn’t a surprise to see her tiring to second place after that train wreck of a ride.

Bets $100/w $200/p #5

Race 5 - #3 Fort Langley

Race 6 - #6 Alwaysgotyourback

Race 7 - #2 Crackdown

Race 8 - #3 Snappy Ginger

Race 9 - #6 Jack’s Reign
