Thoroughbreds Wednesday - Garrity Picks Races at Thistledown

We're back for a Wednesday and heading to Thistledown in Ohio, where there's a very playable eight-race mid-week card. The dirt will be fast (there is no turf course at Thistledown). Let's go . . .

Race 2 (2:10 p.m. ET) is a 5 1/2 furlong sprint for $5,000 claimers 3 and up. Races this short are all about speed, and that is why we like 6-Zippit Yankee. This 7-year-old gelding has the most early speed in this race, and an outside post, and those two together put him on a pretty comfortable early lead, we think, and once he's in front, he should stay there all the way. We see him taking this one in gate-to-wire fashion, and we will bet him to win at 5-2.
Thistledown Race 2

We're going with lone speed again in Race 4 (3:10 p.m.), another $5,000 claiming, 5 1/2 furlong sprint for horses 3 and up. The speedball here is 6-Itwillbealright. This 4-year-old has a huge edge in early speed. We'd bet a month's pay that he will have the lead. He's got so much more early speed than the other runners that we think he will go to the front without even having to run all that hard; this setup (a horse setting the pace while running easily) is the best setup in racing. We see another wire-to-wire job in this one, and we will bet Itwillbealright to win at 5-2.
Thistledown Race 4

Race 6 (4:10 p.m.) is a 6-furlong dash on the dirt for Ohio-bred, first-level allowance horses 3 and up. The inside horse here, 1-Romantic Cowboy, has a lethal combination of the most early speed and the best last-race Beyer Speed Figure. Breaking from the rail, he should go right to the front, and we think he will stay there all the way. We will bet him to win at 5-2.

$40 W on 1-Romantic Cowboy

For a nightcap, we'll turn to the featured Race 7 (4:40 p.m.), a good first-level allowance for fillies and mares 3 and up. The pick here is 8-Critical Humor. This mare comes off two good races on the synthetic surface at Presque Isle Downs, and the synthetic-to-dirt angle is one we've long liked. We think she gets a good stalking trip from the outside post, and overtakes the pacesetters down the stretch. We will bet her to win at 6-1.
