Thoroughbreds Saturday: Borgata to make Atlantic City Louisville East for Kentucky Derby Day

Betting and bourbon will be the order of the day as the bayside gambling den celebrates horse racing’s biggest event.

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa isn’t horsing around when it comes to what is universally celebrated as “the most exciting two minutes in sports.”

Fans who can’t be at Louisville’s hallowed Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby on May 4 can still be part of the action by watching it (and betting it) at the Big B’s new, state-of-the-art Race and Sports Book, which boasts 100 individual seats, each with its own 40-inch, flat-screen TV monitor, 10 betting windows and a giant video wall.

But what’s Derby Day without a bourbon (Kentucky’s greatest export) or mint julep or three? B Bar, which is located in the middle of the casino floor, has eight large-screen TVs. And Long Bar will be featuring a variety of bourbon-infused cocktails including the “Kentucky Woman,” made of Woodford Reserve bourbon, fresh lime, ginger beer and mint).

Old Homestead Steak House’s adult-beverage contribution to the festivities will be the “Blackberry Basil Whiskey Smash” (Maker’s Mark, basil, lemon, blackberries), while Wolfgang Puck American Grille will be pouring the “Good Ol’ Wolf” (house-infused Knob Creek “brown butter” bourbon, pear nectar and spice-burnt Averna (Italian liqueur).
