Thoroughbreds: RT picks the entire nine-race Sunday card at Keeneland

Got to get those bets in before the spring meet ends

Keeneland, April 14th, 2019 Thunderstorms and 72̊
Only 7 more racing dates remain this spring.

My Video About Handicapping Horses Is Avaialble On This Site -> https://www.bettorsinsider.com/horse-racing/2019/04/14/rts-spot-plays-explains-his-methods-for-handicapping
The day it was shot, we used a Charles Town race to handicap…the day I hit the Pick 6 there (yes, this IS shameless promotion).

Congratulations are in order today:

Mick McMudder of Bettors Insider. Crushed it yesterday by SWEEPING THE BOARD, his winners were Parx2 ($4 winner), Aqu3 ($9.80 exacta as well as the $5.40 winner), LrL 3 ($13.40 winner and $65 exacta) LrL 4 ($4.80 winner) Aqu 8 ($11.40 winner, $24.80 exacta) PERIOD 😊

Owendale and Florent Geroux. What a magnificent ride Geroux put on. Bravo!

Omaha Beach. Such a game effort and a lesson learned by RT. I took Long Range Toddy and I have a sneaking suspicion that his connections told jockey Jon Court not to press it. Given the fact that he had little to gain, in terms of Derby points, it wouldn’t surprise that his strategy was along those lines.

Winx. 33 in-a-row. A record that will not be bested.

Monarch Of Egypt. American Pharaoh’s first starter scored a win at Naas in Ireland. If you get a chance, watch the stretch run. American Pharaoh has two other offspring running this week. Tesorina and Lady Delaware, both trained by Wesley Ward (Aqu1, April 17th), are slated.

Linda Rice and Manny Franco for winning the Aqueduct spring meet titles.

Finally, an “oh the irony.” Joel Rosario wins the Santa Anita winter meet title. The name given to the trophy? “The Golden Whip Award.”

Non Thoroughbred POD – Twins under 7.5. Non motivated hitter day. When queried about the weather here, Alexa said . . . “in Minneapolis, there’s a flood warning in effect until 3:00 pm Monday. Tomorrow’s weather is cloudy skies with a high of 45 and a low of 27. How you get flooding in 27̊ weather is a mystery. Regardless, two solid pitchers and hitting a 90mph ball in 40ish weather hurts.

Keeneland Race 1
$79K Maidens 1M turf F/M 3yo

The Skinny:
Quick lesson. Good mud runners make good turf runners. Good turf runners, can make good runners and in today’s case, the saying, “bet on the jockey and not the horse’” is a good strategy.

1-Maid In The Mist (10/1) 1st out after a seven month layoff, this filly had a solid race in September, in the slop and at Keeneland. She took the lead and tired during the stretch to get place money. Her works, up to this point, have been a recent quick one at 3f and several slow, methodical 4f and 5f events. This appears as if trainer Brendan Walsh is drilling into her stamina and rating. Johnny V in the irons.

5-Joy To The World (8/1) Violence filly had a solid out in her first going 5.5f. She stumbled at the gate, symptomatic of 1st Lasix and gathered herself to close her stretch run gaining 2.5 lengths in :18.64. Gets a needed stretch out today and Violence foals are always of interest.

11, 13, or 14 – all first time starters. (approx. 8-15/1) call it blind obedience, this strategy of first timers in the slop has served well in exotics.

Keenland Race 1 Bets:
1 - $10/w, $20/p
$1 Exacta 1-5/1-5-11-13-14

Keeneland Race 2
$40K Claimers 1 & 1/16th NW3 3yo+

The Skinny:

3 – Bold Prophet (7/5) Brad Cox (42% last 30) trainee, this guy gets a drop in class and has the highest speed ratings of the group. Luis Saez will lay off the pace and make his move at the top of the stretch.

5 – Portal (2/1) Gulfstream shipper is a whole new animal since Julian Leparopoux has taken the reins. 5yo gedling took over the pace on the backstretch last out and turned up the heat when another neared. Keeps Julien and his front running style may bode well today.

2 – Bemma’s Boy (15/1) more than a few moons ago, a well known trainer’s son and I went to the OTB to bet the Derby. He opens the form and asks, “are you aware of the term bounce?’ No. He explained, “horses run in a pattern and “some are readily identifiable.” He alludes to the Beyers of one horse and says, up/down/up/down etc, signifying its pattern. Now that is a long way of telling you that Bemma here is going to be on an up bounce this race and I’m betting him.

Keeneland Race 2 Bets:
5 - $10/w, $20/p
Exacta Box 3-5-2

Quick Picks for the rest of the Keeneland card

3rd: 8-Dot Matrix, 6-Monarch’s Glen, 11-Heavy Roller
4th: 7-Master Distiller
looks to be the best of these today
5th: 15(AE)- Encanta, 1-Kitten’s Finest
6th: 1-Lontani
7th: 12-Marzo
8th: 3-Foxtail, 7-End Of Now
9th: 2-Voting Control
