Thoroughbreds: McMudder’s looking at another muddy Monday at Parx

Sweaty horses. With spring comes sweaty horses. Yesterday, Laurel and Parx had no shortage of horses in a lather. And not a single one of them ran well. Simply put, it was cool enough at both tracks yesterday that relaxed and well-conditioned horses should not have been lathered up. On their toes is good, lathered up is not. Keep an eye out for the horses that are lathered coming into the paddock or get lathered in the paddock. It’s too early and cool for this to be the temperature outside and it is more likely the horse. Throw out the lathered.

The rains that soaked Keeneland on Sunday will descend on Parx on Monday. Expect some slop.

Parx Race 1
5-Pinatubo and 7-Classic Lines have the best off track form and the best current form so no matter how the track plays, it looks like a two-horse race. The advantage here goes to 5-Pinatubo since he has been racing with better and should get a better pace to be close to than last out. He is hoping for the off going.

Parx Race 7
1-Shotmaster is super consistent on speed figures and returns to the level that he ran second 3 back. It’s obvious that this one is not perfect, a voided claim on the past performances is never good, but this one ran a deceptively good race last out and looks to enjoy the off going. In a race with lots of similar performance lines, the 20/1 M/L here is a gift. 4-Printer has been very popular in the claim box and seems to run well every other race. This is every other so expect an improvement for him. Rounding out the trifecta could be another bomb, 5-Arch Contender, who is much improved on an off track.
