Horse Racing McMudder’s Chilly Tuesday Picks

Races at Parx

Good luck and watch out for pace scenario changes due to scratches. Why? With the uncertain weather and pushy racing secretaries hustling horses to make races go, scratches are running rampant right now. Therefore, it’s of paramount importance to make sure that a scratch doesn’t change the pace of the race and, thus, change the handicapping angle utilized. The biggest change to a race is when lone speed comes out since it forces a horse to the lead that might be experiencing the sensation of open range for the first time.

Picks for January 22, 2019:

Still cold but not as brutal as Monday. Hard to tell what the surface will be like since the rains from the weekend may come back to the surface as the temperature goes up. Or not.

Parx Race 1
Claiming $7500 non2 at 8f70yds for fillies and mares. 5-Sister Patricia stands out here based on her recent effort at this level. That race was the first for Kate Demasi off the claim and look for continued improvement here. 1-Flippity Flop beat the 5 last out but gets an increase in impost due to Dylan Davis riding -- assuming Davis makes the trip to ride a single horse?
$20 W/P/S 5-Sister Patricia

Parx Race 3
PA bred $30K claimer for fillies and mares. 4-Celesse looks to be the choice here but why take the winning jock from last off to put a guy just getting back for injury in the saddle. Either Joe Taylor has a great connection to Josh Navarro or something else is amiss. Instead look to 2-Mill and Gloria to continue her roll (and she keeps the winning rider from last out!). It’s never a bad thing to pick a John Servis horse at Parx. 44% winners says so.
$10 W/P/S 2-Mill and Gloria

Parx Race 4
How good is 4-Dan’s Girl? Hard to tell since after 3 ascending speed figures, she has posted 3 descending speed figures since going to a new barn. That and a rise from her recent success levels indicates a look elsewhere. 2-Dancin Debbie has multiple interesting angles, the most important of which is the return to the pilot from her career best run two back.
$10 W/P/S 2-Dancing Debbie

Parx Race 5
7-Atina Salsa
is experiencing a significant drop here after being put up over 2 opponents last out. Even without the help of the stewards she looks very tough here with 2–Wildly Good Lookin being the logical competition.
$10 W/P/S 7-Atina Salsa
$2 Exacta 7/2

And now for some quickies….

Parx Race 6
6-Charly’s Charm
looks to continue the absolutely stunning success his sire, Uptowncharlybrown, is having with young runners. His productivity numbers are on par with Speightstown! Add in that Mychel Sanchez wins at 42% for Ed Coletti and this one looks pretty straightforward.

Parx Race 10
Open $10K race with lots of angles. The best . . . best speed last out. 3-Sight Line is looking to repeat his excellent effort for last time.
