Golf Fans, we have another good one this week! The last event on the Florida swing is here as players take aim at the Copperhead course at Innisbrook Resort!
Nestled in Palm Harbor, Florida, Copperhead is a challenging course that can see a veteran win, or we can find a 1st time winner emerge as we did last year. The stakes will be high this year as the weather will not be kind to half of these players!
A challenging Par 71, over 7,352 yards, features tree-lined fairways and rolling terrain that demands good driving off the tee, and a solid ball striking/approach game. The course is well known for the The Snake Pit:Holes 16, 17, and 18, which present a challenge to golfers, and can be the make or break for some of the players.
This course demands players to be dialed in with their driving accuracy, approach to green, proximity to the hole, strong scrambling, and a solid putting game. The course features tight fairways surrounded by deep rough and large bunkers, demanding accurate driving. Water hazards come into play on five holes, and there are over 75 bunkers on the course.
This week research had to be a little more strategic knowing the weather coming in. It is expected that the PM/AM wave of players on Thursday/Friday are going to be the most affected by the high wind shifts. Scott & Bramlett are in the AM/PM wave, and I am banking on Moore & Smalley, who drew the short straw, to navigate the winds.
We’ve previously discussed Scott's consistency in other articles. In his last 58 events, dating back to August 2022(not counting 2 President Cups), he has 43 Top 40 finishes, only 6 missed cuts.
Dating back to June 2018, he has a total of 15 missed cuts and finished inside the Top 40 in 13 of the following events! Scott is coming off a missed cut but has a good history here. In 7 trips, coming off a T16, he has 4 Top 40s and 3 missed cuts and I will bet he does not miss the cut in two straight weeks.
In 8 events this season, Moore has 5 Top 40s, finishing inside in 4 of his last 5 events. He has been spectacular, gaining strokes off the tee, tee-to-green, and total, in all 8 events. He is coming off his best overall performance in 2025 at the Players Championship, gaining almost 4 strokes on approach green. His last two trips here have resulted in a 1st place win and T12 last year, he can place high again!
Smalley is the 4th best player with course adjusted fit this week. Also, over their L36 rounds, Smalley is ranked the 8th best golfer in this field in terms of strokes gained per round at 1.35. He has been on a tear, finishing inside the Top-21 in 6 of his 7 events this year. This gives me a boost of confidence he can find another T-40 here as he has a missed-cut and a T27 his last two trips here, in his best form!
