Soccer betting tip from Miller — be cautious when betting cup games — he explains

Sean Miller

Bettors must be cautious when backing any cup games.

There is a problem, which was witnessed Tuesday, with betting the F.A. Cup, Carabao Cup, or in fact any domestic cup game during the season.

Some teams take the competition seriously, and some do not.

With cup games coming in the middle of league action, and for some UEFA commitments, some managers use the cups to rotate in squad players and or academy youngsters.

Yesterday, Liverpool and West Brom did just that.

Both lost.

West Brom is currently leading the EFL Championship by a single point over Leeds United, but the more important lead is six points, over third place Fulham. The top two teams in the league earn automatic promotion into the Premier League for next year, and get all the lucrative riches that come along with a spot in the top flight.

Baggies' Manager Slaven Bilic was not taking any chances with promotion, and made nine changes to his lineup for the F.A. Cup match with Newcastle United. No surprise then that WBA fell 3-2, after falling behind 3-0.

The moral of the story here? Make sure you check out the lineups in any match before you put down your wager. There could be some value going with the other team.
