Musical hit-maker The Weeknd has become a co-owner of the Canadian company OverActive Media, according to Complex. OverActive runs the Toronto Defiant of the Overwatch League, as well as teams for League of Legends, Starcraft, Rocket League and more.
"As a big eSports fan, I am really excited to be involved in this project," said The Weeknd in a statemnt. "I am looking forward to collaborating with OverActive Media in unique and innovative ways."
So nearly everyone in eSports in Canada is literally working for The Weeknd. (Sorry.)
Got us thinking that with fighters getting killed in the ring and horses breaking down on the track, football players getting CTE at an alarming rate and athletes with 7-to-9 digit contracts pulling hammies or needing Tommy John surgery -- and with the costs of baseball grounds crews and maintaining golf courses and the havoc that weather can sometimes wreak on major events, are we a couple generations away from a sports landscape all played inside by just about anyone with the biggest injury risks being eyestrain and carpal tunnel?
Gosh, I hope not.
With no NBA and minimal soccer and tennis it was a day light on results. The highlight was Andrew Albert rebounding from an 0-4 Wednesday with baseball picks for a 4-0 Thursday. It's the second time in the short season in which he's followed a shutout with a perfect game.
We'll try to do much better today.
Good luck at the tables, windows, kiosks and apps.
